The WSK Final Cup was disputed on the Adria Karting Raceway circuit. It is a two-race trophy open to all international classes and the 60 Mini. The Novalux team, representing Lenzo Kart, Luxor and LKE Engines, had five drivers involved in the two rounds.
ROUND 1 – 5 november 2017 In KZ2, Francesco Iacovacci qualified in eighth place. The qualifying rounds all had comebacks, and the Luxor driver managed to come second in all three of them. These results were valid for the first row on the grid in the pre-finals, where he came second. Despite the adverse weather conditions, with heavy rain, the final did not result in any changes and the Luxor driver finished second by gaining 20 points valid for the Trophy. The Croatian Damian Sekulic, driving a Lenzo chassis with an LKE engine, managed to gain a few places and end up in eleventh place.
60 mini e OKJ In the 60 mini, it is worth highlighting the good performance of Oscar Pedersen, with an eighth place in the qualifiers (out of 80 participating drivers), which he managed to maintain in the pre-finals. Unfortunately, a final contact forced him to retire in the early stages of the race. In OKJ, Robin Sarg and the Novalux novice Maya Wueg, struggled to adapt to the Adria track. However, both were protagonists of a very good comeback in the pre-finals with Sarg ending in eleventh place, starting from twenty-fifth, and the Spanish driver jumping 13 places to finish fifth. In the final, with few changes compared to the starting grid, Wueg finished thirteenth and Sarg twentieth.
ROUND 2 – 12 novembre In the KZ2, Iacovacci performed well by qualifying in second place, with 1-tenth of a second separating him for third place. Saturday’s racing day was heavily influenced by the weather, with dense fog on the circuit that forced the race manager to postpone the start of the races. At the end of the three races, the Luxor driver was in seventh place for the prefinals. Here, after a good comeback, he finished second. The final was full of surprises: Iacovacci was third after the first lap. On the third lap he managed to reach second place and was pushing to reduce the distance from the leader. However, on the eleventh lap he was overtaken again, in any case remaining not far from the drivers in front of him and waiting for the opening of a gap in the battle that the two immediately triggered. And the possibility was there two laps from the end when a mistake by the two leaders allowed the Novalux driver to finish first and win the Final Cup 2017. In OKJ, the two drivers Robin Sarg and Maya Weug improved their qualifying performance, succeeding in getting in the starting grid of the pre-finals respectively in fourteenth and seventh place. The Spanish driver qualified for the final, where she started from the eighth row. After a good comeback, which was also a sign of the quality and competitiveness of the LenzoLKE material, Maya succeeded in finishing in a great sixth place.
Dario Galipò: “Everything went smoothly right from the first weekend: our drivers have always been very competitive, especially in the KZ2, where Francesco Iacovacci immediately stood out. The team was constantly involved because the conditions on the track changed very quickly, especially in the first weekend where the rain ruined our plans. However, we did not let ourselves be caught out, always performing well. Everything went well on the second weekend. We had to make a comeback in the KZ2, but the driver performed well, coming from seventh to second place and then finishing with a great win in the final. We were also happy with the work of the newcomer Maya, especially in the second weekend where she recovered from sixteenth place to end up sixth. A great way to end the year for us. The whole team is looking forward to next season, motivated by this excellent result.”
